SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY FASHION DESIGN MAJORS WERE RECOGNIZED FOR THEIR HARD WORK TODAY AT THEIR ANNUAL SENIOR FASHION SHOW. THIS EVENT IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHOWCASE THE YEAR LONG COLLECTIONS THE STUDENTS HAVE BEEN CREATING. STUDENT JACK BRESCH TALKED TO ME A LITTLE ABOUT THE PROCESS.
JACK BRESCH:
YOU KNOW, HAD TO DO 100 DRAWINGS, AND DESIGNS. AND FROM THAT, GET FABRIC, CONCEPTUALIZE, GET FITTINGS. EVERYTHING THAT GOES INTO IT.
MADDIE:
JACK IS ONE OF 26 SENIOR DESIGNERS. EACH DESIGNER GOT TO SELECT THEIR OWN MODELS AND JOIN THEM ON STAGE AT THE END OF THEIR RUN.
MADDIE:
FASHION HAS NEVER REALLY BEEN MY STRONGSUIT. BUT FOR SOME SU STUDENTS, IT’S EXACTLY WHAT THEY’RE HERE FOR. JACK WAGNER SAYS FASHION HELPS TO EXPRESS HIMSELF.
JACK WAGNER:
THERE WAS SOMETHING CREATIVE INSIDE OF ME THAT WASN’T ABLE TO COME OUT…THEN I SAW THESE OTHER BRANDS LIKE SUPREME AND OFF WHITE AND THESE BRANDS AND I THOUGHT THAT “OKAY, MAYBE I CAN DO THAT”.
MADDIE:
THE STUDENTS ALSO WERE ABLE TO CHOOSE A CREATIVE THEME FOR THEIR COLLECTION, BUT JACK BRESCH SAID HE WAS MORE FOCUSED ON HIS MODELS.
JACK BRESCH:
IT WAS INTERESTING, I DIDNT FEEL VERY THEMATIC IN CHOOSING STRICT INSPIRATION IN THAT. IT WAS MORE ABOUT DRESSING 6 PEOPLE IN HOW I THINK THEY’D LOOK NICE. TAKING COLOR INTO ACCOUNT, TAKING FABRIC INTO ACCOUNT. I’M VERY INSPIRED BY WETSUITS AND FUNCTIONAL THINGS.
MADDIE RITTER:
MANY FASHION DESIGN SENIORS SAID THEY WANT TO WORK FOR SMALL FASHION COMPANIES AFTER GRADUATION. REPORTING FOR NCC NEWS, I’M MADDIE RITTER.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS) — Syracuse University seniors studying Fashion Design in the College of Visual and Performing Arts had the chance to show their work to the public Thursday evening. A fashion show was held in the Goldstein Auditorium in the Schine Student Center.
The 26 senior students got to hand-pick their models to show off their collections with about 5-6 pieces each. The models walked alongside a song, also chosen by the designer. Both were chosen to fit their theme.
Student Jack Bresch discussed the work behind his designs. He focused on, “taking color into account, taking fabrics into account”.
Themes varied between designers, with some focusing on their heritage, their inspirations from other brands and types of clothing, and the cities that they’re from. Student Isa Serrano used her collection to dive in depth in her Mexican heritage. Another student had a New York City, “Our World” theme.

NCC News asked the seniors where their inspiration came from. Student Jack Wagner spoke about his love for denim, and why his entire collection was based off of denim.
“I was at a thrift store, and I saw a couple denim items. I started imagining what I could create with something like that”.
He also spoke about his inspiration from various fashion brands.
“I saw these other brands like Supreme and Off White and these brands and I thought that, okay, maybe I can do that”.
Many students in the program said they hope to work for smaller fashion brands after graduation to further figure out their style.
