Audio Transcript: Syracuse Closes Roads Ahead of Great New York State Fair
David Horn: Traffic, construction, and detours have become more common in Syracuse and could cause a problem as the Great New York State Fair approaches. Closures to parts of I-81 and I-690 could pose issues for Onondaga County residents like Chase Eder.
Chase Eder: I’ve been worried lately about getting everywhere.
Horn: Eder is planning on driving to the state fair and is taking precautionary measures.
Eder: Genuinely might do a little investigative research. Just take my car, take a day that I’m free, and try to find a lot of back street routes that I can familiarize myself with before the chaos starts.
Horn: Eder understands the construction but wishes the city was more apologetic about the closures.
Eder: It seems like they kind of just say oop this road is closed, can’t go down. Sorry.
Horn: The New York State Police said troopers will be present throughout the fairgrounds and surrounding roadways to manage traffic flow and incidents. Motorists should expect increased traffic, especially during peak arrival and departure times. The state fair is taking place at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse from Aug. 26 to Sep. 7.
