AUDIO TRANSCRIPT: Outlook on CNY gas prices heading into the Trump presidency
Landon Stilz: Thanks, Helena. Gas prices were a huge talking point this election. After polls closed, AAA representative Valerie Puma said they immediately fell.
Valerie Puma: Last week, oil prices did fall by just about 1% the morning following the election night news.
Stilz: President-elect Donald Trump has advocated that his policies will greatly reduce gas prices. Although they won’t take any effect until 2025, Puma says it is hard to predict when they will reach CNY residents.
Puma: It’s hard to say because when it comes to politics, I mean, it’s never cut and dry. It could take a long time. It could be very quick. It’s hard to say until really you’re in the thick of it.
Stilz: Prices currently sit at $3.18 as of the eleventh. Landon Stilz, NCC News.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — A new president can mean a lot of changes coming to things Central New Yorkers care about. One such thing is gas prices, and residents have already had a victory at the pump.
“Last week, oil prices did fall by just about 1% the morning following the election night news,” said Valerie Puma, a representative of AAA.
The morning following the election, gas cost around $3.27. Prices have fallen even further to around $3.18 a gallon as of Nov. 11.
President-elect Donald Trump has claimed that prices will continue to fall under his administration. The number the campaign had thrown around during the election was $1.87. Puma said it is hard to predict if policy will allow that.
“It’s hard to say because when it comes to politics, I mean, it’s never cut and dry. It could take a long time. It could be very quick. It’s hard to say until really you’re in the thick of it.” Puma said.
For now though, CNY residents can sit comfortably as prices trend down for the winter months.
