SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — Ayesha Landers brought her children to the polls for the first time around Tuesday afternoon at Elmcrest Children’s Center, joined by her sister, Alysha Glover.
Landers and Glover have voted since they turned 18 nearly 30 years ago. Landers said she took her son, Corion, and daughter, Amori, to show them the voting process and why it matters.
“So they know the steps and the process,” Landers said. “So when they get older, they’ll know how to vote and be their own individual person, stand up for what they believe in, and actually vote for who they believe in.”
Landers stressed how crucial it is for people to exercise their right to vote.
“The importance (of the right to vote) is to make sure that we are choosing the right person to represent us,” she said. “That (person) has the best interests for us at heart. That is for the people, all of the people, not just certain individuals, but for everyone. So it’s very important that we all get out to vote.”
Landers said she hopes people will vote for those they believe in right now and educate the next generation of voters.
