VAN BUREN, N.Y. (NNC News) — Why not do your civic duty and hang out with a friend at the same time? That’s the approach two Baldwinsville locals took at the polls today.
Jenny Doane and Mary Coogan carpooled to vote together. Doane said she was happy to do it.
“I love my friend,” Doane said. “She’s a good woman.”
What better way to express that love than helping your friend vote? Coogan said she was greatful for the ride.
“It’s bonding because she cares enough to get me here,” Coogan said. “If she didn’t want to get out of her house she didn’t have to.”
Coogan met Doane when she joined the Baldwinsville Rotary Club.
While both of them wanted to spend time with each other, they also thought it was important to vote.
“I just think it’s important that everybody does it,” Coogan said. “We have not always had the right to do that.”
Doane also said voting was important because she’s unhappy with the current presidential administration.
She said she wants less hate in the world and thinks some of the problems can be solved with a change in leadership.
“All kinds of things that are going on are just not right,” Doane said.
Both Doane and Coogan walked out of the polling loaction with an “I voted” sticker, and more memories with each other.

Cole Isaacson: I just got back from a polling location in Van Beern on election day where people are finding all sorts of ways to get there. Some asked their friends to give them a ride.
Jenny Doane: Yeah, she needed a ride. So, I am the driver.
Isaacson: This is Mary Coogan and Jenny Doane. They met at the Baldwinville Rotary Club, and for them voting is another way to spend time together.
Mary Coogan: Well, it’s bonding because she cares enough to get me here. You know, if she didn’t want to get out of her house, she didn’t have to.
Isaacson: Mary’s been voting since she was 18, and she knows how important it is.
Coogan: I just think it’s important that everybody does it because we have not always had the right to do that.
Isaacson: Jenny also told me that this election in particular is kind of a big deal to her.
Doane: All kinds of things that are going on is just not right.
Isaacson: Jenny might not like what’s going on in politics right now, but she’ll always spend time with Mary.
Doand: I love it. I love my friend. She’s a good woman.
