Super Dirt Week Gets Underway at Oswego Speedway
Michael Crisci: Well, thank you, guys. I am currently in Oswego at Oswego Speedway, and Super DIRT Week is here. You guys can see behind me. I am currently in the pits as drivers, fans and vendors get ready for a week of racing. In Oswego, the roar of engines and the flying of dirt take over for one week a year. The annual Super DIRT Week is officially underway. Drivers from all over the Northeast and Canada make their way upstate to take part in this tradition. Since 2016, Oswego Speedway has been home to the races, and it has cemented itself in the community. Kody Harris, a mechanic for some of the cars on the track today, anticipates this week every year.
Kody Harris: I’m working on a handful of cars this week, so just really enjoying the time here. It’s my favorite event out of the whole year.
Crisci: In year number 54, fans still love coming and making it a priority. In fact, Chris Hile, one of today’s racers, remembers coming to Super DIRT Week as a kid and says that a win means everything.
Chis Hile: To win the Billy Whittaker Cars 200 would be, uh, would truly be something. I don’t know if I could ever fully indulge into myself. Um, I can remember going to DIRT Week when I was, you know, knee-high with my dad and my brother and all my family. So, uh, to be able to, to, you know, etch your name into that trophy and to be part of history with that would be something that I would, uh, forever smile and take it to my grave. That’s for sure.
Crisci: This week, there will be qualifying trials on Wednesday and Thursday. And then the top drivers will participate in four different races on Friday and Saturday: the Salute to the Troops 150, the Pro Stock iHeart New York 50, the Sportsman Great Lakes 75 and the Billy Whittaker Cars 200, all here at Oswego Speedway. And if you would like to see some top-of-the-line racing, tickets are still available. You can get them online or here at Oswego Speedway. And if you do choose to come, make sure to park in your seat, fuel up and enjoy some great racing here in Central New York. In Oswego, I’m Michael Crisci.

“To win the Billy Whittaker Cars 200 would truly be something,” Hile said. “I can remember going to Dirt Week when I was knee-high with my family. To be able to have your name engraved into that trophy and to be part of history with that would be something. I would forever smile and take it to my grave, that’s for sure.”
