The Doshna’s prepare themselves emotionally as their son heads to college
Video Transcript: Marcellus lacrosse star prepares for Maryland while his family reflects on his legacy

Christopher Doshna: Every since freshman year, I thought I had all the time in the world, but you really don’t.”

Allen: Christopher Doshna, the senior lacrosse player headed to the University of Maryland, has done many things for the Marcellus Mustangs that the community will miss. But his family are the ones who are going to miss him the most…every day.

Nicole Doshna: I mean just his presence honestly. It’s going to be strange in the house without him here, but I think he is ready. I don’t know if we’re ready, but he’s ready.

Allen: Christopher is the oldest of four, which comes with heavy responsibilities—one being a role model for his younger siblings. Jack and Juliana Doshna said that they are going to miss the simple things about Christopher more than anything.

Jack Doshna: Fishing and hunting. I like to go fishing with him sometimes.

Juliana Doshna: Probably, just like, him being there and like, sometimes he drives me to get food and stuff.

Allen: Christopher taught Juliana lacrosse and how to be tougher, along with Jack. But what Christopher leaves behind for his siblings is the lesson of always treating people with care and kindness. And what makes Christopher’s next chapter so hard on his mom, Nicole, is the feeling of what’s to come…that most parents dread…the empty nest.

Nicole Doshna: Especially with six of us in a house, starting to lose them as they go is going to be tough.

MARCELLUS, N.Y. (NCC News) – Marcellus Senior High School is home to standout lacrosse player Christopher Doshna. As his high school career comes to an end with potentially two more games left, his presence will be missed not only on the field but also at home.

Doshna is ranked No. 38 nationally in the class of 2026, according to Inside Lacrosse. He has scored 279 career goals and became the Mustangs’ all-time leader in points.

He has committed to the University of Maryland and will begin the next chapter of his lacrosse career this fall. Even though Maryland struggled this past season with a 7-6 record, the Terrapins are regarded as one of the top lacrosse programs in the country.

While he is excited about the opportunity, leaving home comes with mixed emotions.

“I think just the fact that everything’s going to be new to me and that it’s not all going to be familiar like it is at home,” Doshna said.

The mixed feelings are mutual for his mother, Nicole Doshna. She said she knows her son is ready for the next phase of his life because the family has prepared him for it.

“It’s definitely going to be strange in the house without him here,” Nicole Doshna said. “But we’re excited for him. We’re excited to travel and go see him.”

His brother, Jack Doshna, said he will miss going fishing and hunting with him. His sister, Juliana Doshna, said she will miss playing lacrosse with him.

As his time winds down before he moves away, Christopher Doshna hopes his siblings remember the lessons he has taught them.

“I hope all of my siblings make sure that they are always nice to everyone no matter what,” he said. “That’s what people remember most about others — how they treated them.”

His mother said the family already plans to visit Maryland for a family weekend in the fall and will try to attend as many games as possible.
