SYRACUSE N.Y. (NCC News) — Drumlins Country Club started as a barn 100 years ago and is now celebrating a century in Syracuse with centennial events.

Events Drumlins have hosted during the year include a Drumlins themed trivia night and a student event for skiing and snowshoeing. This is according to Joe Sidoni, who is the director at Drumlins.

Drumlins has evolved over the years from its beginnings as a barn to the two golf course country club that it is today, said Sidoni. Despite the many changes, Sidoni said that the member base stays committed to Drumlins.

“We have a little Drumlins community, we’ve got our restaurant regulars and our bar regulars,” Sidoni said. “We’ve got families that join year-over-year and then their kids join, it is a very close-knit community.”

Events that Drumlins will host for the remainder of their 100th year include a golf and tennis tournament. There will also be a block party open to the public, said Sidoni. Being open to the public with things like their restaurant, banquet hall and public golf course is what sets Drumlins apart from other clubs, according to Sidoni.

“Most country clubs in the area that are our size are private member-only clubs, to dine in the restaurant you need to be a member, to host an event you need to be a member,” Sidoni said. “What makes Drumlins unique is that outside of the private side golf, we have an option for the public.”

The significance of Drumlins to the Syracuse community can be seen through the people that pass through the country club, according to Sidoni.

“I was riding up with an older woman, I was taking her up the lift because we’re an 100 year old building we don’t have an elevator,” said Sidoni. “She was just telling me about Drumlins and how she met her husband here and it’s those kinds of stories that really make you understand how important Drumlins is.”

Drumlins will conclude their 100 year festivities with a centennial New Year’s Eve gala in December. The gala will be 1920s themed to match the energy of the club’s origins.

Joe Sidoni: We have a little Drumlins community, we have our restaurant regulars, and our bar regulars. We’ve got families that join year-over-year and then their kids join. It is a very close knit community.

Whiley: Sidoni says Drumlins will host events like golf and tennis tournaments later in the year to celebrate 100 years or the centennial. He says the club tries to host events that are based around all of its offerings.

Sidoni: We’ve had some very small events. We host trivia on monday nights so we had a Drumlins themed trivia night, so the questions were Drumlins themed. We a student event for skiingand snow shoeing.”
