Assumption Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen Package

SYRACUSE N.Y. (NCC News) – Connected to Assumption Church is the Assumption Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen on North Salina Street. This ministry prepares meals for hundreds each day, serving up to 400 sandwiches.

“A lot of our donations for the soup kitchen and food pantry come from local grocery stores such as Tops, Wegman’s, Nichols and the co-op,” director of the pantry and kitchen, Brother Joe Krondon, said.

The soup kitchen relies on its volunteers to maintain steady production. With over 50 helpers, most volunteers work two or three times a week. Their jobs range from making fresh baked cookies to dishing out soup to their patrons.

“We encourage and we welcome everybody to samaritan for the lunch window, the dinner window and the pantry services,” volunteer Ann Field said.

Families can come twice a month to receive a box of meals that can last up to five days, depending on the size of the household. Both areas are open Monday to Friday. The food pantry is open from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., and the soup kitchen from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
