VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: Westcott Neighborhood Hosts third Annual Halloween Dog Parade
Ilana Epstein: There’s more than just candy to be excited about this Halloween.
Aliyah McNeil: My dog is Sunny and she’s an alien and my other dog is Oliver he’s barking and he is a devil.
Epstein: Aliyah McNeil has two dogs, both of which she brought to the Westcott Neighborhood Association’s third annual dog parade. Aliens, devils, hula dancers and more, these owners had their dogs dressed full out in costume.
Poopdeck Mickey “HA! HA!” Mahan: Dogs are lovers and they evoke love and any time you can integrate a dog into any kind of circumstance, it’s a good thing for anyone involved.
Epstein: As soon as we got there…
Sam Gruber: Okay, here’s the order of events.
Epstein: It was time for the walk.
Epstein: The perfect vibe for a Saturday morning. Fall foliage, crunchy leaves, reuniting with old friends, dogs and families all together, and of course music.
Kyle Hagenbuch: I think they keep improving it every year, the first year there was no band and now there’s a band, makes it more fun.
Epstein: And with just one week until the presidential election, it’s important that the neighborhood has events like these to bring people together despite their political beliefs.
Maria Laura Veramendi: This is what we are alive for, like having a joyful time with families and doggies.
Epstein: President of the Westcott Neighborhood Association Sam Gruber told us that local officials were in attendance.
Gruber: I think I saw Alex Marrion our city auditor here.
Epstein: However…
Gruber: So some people are here but not as politicians today, just members of the community.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — With just a few days until Election Day, it can be stressful. What better way to destress, than spending quality time with your loved ones, friends and pets. And not just any pet, your dog in costume.
That’s exactly what the people of the Westcott neighborhood did on Saturday, Oct. 26 for the Westcott Neighborhood Association’s third Annual Dog Parade.
The event took place in the early afternoon. Many people who attend the event every year noted that this year’s event was different than last, as the weather was perfect and there was no rain.
Dogs went full out in costume. A batman, witch, hula dancer, devil and alien were just some of the dogs that were spotted. Most people dressed up their dog.
When asked why this event was so special, Poopdeck Mickey “HA! HA!” Mahan had a lot to say.
“Dogs are lovers and they evoke love and any time you can integrate a dog into any kind of circumstance, it’s a good thing for anyone involved,” he shared.
On the walk, attendees walked through the neighborhood enjoying the fall foliage and beautiful scenery. Many people were out on the lawn watching and also enjoying live music from the band.
“I think they keep improving it every year, the first year there was no band and now there’s a band. It makes it more fun,” Kyle Hagenbuch said.
Hagenbuch and Maria Laura Veramendi have attended every year now. But they say that this year is more special than ever.
“This is what we are alive for, like having a joyful time with families and doggies,” Veramendi said.
President of the Westcott Neighborhood Association Sam Gruber noted that this year was interesting with the presence of local officials including Rachel May, Alex Marrion and more. Although those officials were there, Gruber noted that today they were not politicians, just members of the community.
