Joey Cicini(Reporter):  While this Syracuse shop looks ordinary on the outside, it’s anything but on the inside.

Josh Gideon: There’s probably not too many people in the country that like have a successful furniture and sports car shop fused together.

Cicini: Josh Gideon grew up in Central New York, hailing from DeWitt. He worked several jobs in his 20s trying to find his true passion. That’s when his art of reselling came in.

Gideon: I always did eBay as like a side hustle. I’d go to garage sales and auctions, anything literally I could buy and make money on.

Cicini: This side hustle became his main hustle. In 2015, he opened Gideon’s gallery selling used furniture. Right before the pandemic, Josh reignited his passion, launching GG Cards and Breaks. Now, a longtime collector runs a thousand square foot showroom filled with sports, magic, and Pokemon cards.

Gideon: I’m seeing this next wave of like nostalgia being re-experienced with like the parents and their kids and getting to connect with each other. So that’s like really special to see.

Cicini: Whether it’s couch deals or opening packs like these, the main thing Josh and his team value is building relationships within the community. One of those relationships is with Yvonne LeBlanc, who found Josh in a time of need.

Yvonne Liblanc:  My son had baseball card shops and he passed away last year. After that, I found Josh and he helped me go through everything.

Cicini: For Gideon, moments like those are the most rewarding.

Gideon: Having people come in and tell you that like when they’re having a rough day, this is like kind of their therapy, that’s well beyond just running a store or running a business.

Cicini: From creating smiles to reliving fond memories of loved ones, Gideon’s is the one-stop shop for it all. In Syracuse, Joey Cicini, NCC News.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — From the outside, Gideon’s Gallery may look like a typical storefront. Inside, however, it tells a different story. The shop blends used furniture, sports cards and a sense of community under one roof.

“There’s probably not too many people in the country that have a successful furniture and sports card shop fused together,” owner Josh Gideon said.

Gideon, a DeWitt native, spent much of his 20s searching for the right career path. Along the way, he discovered a passion for reselling — a hustle that would eventually shape his future.

“I always did eBay as a side hustle,” Gideon said. “I’d do garage sales and auctions. Anything literally I can buy and make money on.”

That side hustle turned into a full-time business when he opened Gideon’s Gallery in 2015, initially focusing on used furniture. But just before the COVID-19 pandemic, a childhood passion resurfaced, leading him to expand into sports and trading cards through GG Cards and Breaks.

The shop, located in Syracuse, now features a 1,000-square-foot showroom filled with sports cards and collectibles, including popular trading card games like Pokémon. For Gideon, the resurgence of interest in cards goes beyond business; it’s about connection.

“I’m seeing this next wave of nostalgia being re-experienced with the parents and their kids and getting to connect with each other, so that’s really special to see,” he said.

That sense of connection is what draws customers like Yvonne LeBlanc, who found Gideon during a difficult time.

“My son had baseball card shops. He passed away a year ago,” LeBlanc said. “That’s when I found Josh, and he helped me through everything.”

For Gideon, moments like those define the true value of his work.

“Having people come in and tell you that when they’re having a rough day, this place is like therapy, that’s well beyond just running a store or a business,” he said. “That gives you some kind of validation and purpose in life.”

From creating smiles to helping customers relive cherished memories, Gideon’s Gallery has become more than just a retail space. It’s a place where community and nostalgia intersect.

“It gives you some sort of validation, some sort of purpose in life,” Gideon said. “Makes this all worthwhile.”
