SYRACUSE, NY (NCC News) — Thursday April 25th, 2024 will go down as a historic day for Central New York, marking President Joe Biden’s return to the city he called home in his college days.
President Biden was in the Salt City earmarking $6.1 billion dollars in federal funding for Clay’s Micron plant, the largest federal investment in a venture of this kind in New York State history. The president also designated Central New York a workforce hub in an effort to direct funds to the training needs of this growing industry.
Among the other speakers: Governor Kathy Hochul, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon.
President Joe Biden’s visit marks the first time he has been back in the area since the passing of his brother-in-law in January of last year. Prior to that, he had come for the initial announcement of the Micron plant back in October of 2022. Additionally, in a special appearance, the President sent a pre-recorded message to the graduating class of 2023. With the President’s close ties to the Central New York community and the massive funding his office has officially dedicated to Micron, today’s visit to Syracuse likely won’t be the last.
