SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — At the Reformed Church of Syracuse, Onondaga County voter Karen Schroeder said she is against the country’s current priorities. Schroeder said she is concerned women’s and immigrants’ rights are disappearing.

“Rights are under attack right now,” Schroeder said. “I feel that the country is moving in a direction that I don’t agree with.”

Schroeder also disagreed with how the current presidential administration is spending taxpayers’ money. She plans on straight-ticket voting, something she has never done before, in favor of Democratic candidates. She considers the change in her voting style unfortunate.

“We have to get back to our values and mission in this country,” Schroeder said.

Schroeder will vote with her son. Her husband already voted earlier on Election Day. Schroeder considers voting in the midterms important, even though New York state is not “under the gun,” as she put it.

“I think it’s still important to come out and vote and have my voice heard,” Schroeder said.
