On Thursday, Everson Museum of Art hosted a basketball event for kids on spring break called Shoot ‘n Score.

Syracuse, N.Y. (NCC News) – The Everson Museum of Art has been hosting the Hoop Dreams Basketball and Contemporary Art Exhibition for the last few months. The exhibit will run until May 21. A few aspects of the exhibit include dozens of backboards and rims, famous basketball shoes, jerseys, and the first ever shot clock, which was invented in Syracuse.

“It’s really a way to reach out to a greater portion of the community, through sports. Trying to appeal to people who aren’t the typical museum-goers, and invite the entire community to enjoy arts and culture, and get a little basketball in there as well,” said Jeff Macharyas, director of communications at The Everson Museum of Art.

This past week, the museum put on special events each day for students in Syracuse on spring break. Yesterday’s event was a shooting competition called Shoot ’n Score.

“Today and tomorrow is Shoot ’N Score where we invite families and kids to come out to the museum, shoot some hoops on the half court, score some points, and win some great prizes,” said Macharyas.

Every kid gets a chance to make as many baskets as they can in the span of 30 seconds. There are different spots marked on the court and depending on the distance from the basket, they are worth more points. Ultimately, the more points you score the better prize you get.

One kid who came out was a young girl named Eden. Her and her brother were on spring break and decided to go out to Everson and see what the basketball event is all about.

“We just wanted to do something fun. So we decided to come out here and play,” said Eden.

Eden beat her brother in the shooting competition, and won a free water bottle and wrist band. On top of shooting some hoops, Eden and her brother got to take a look around the exhibit.

“I think I liked all the shoelaces the best,” said Eden.

The basketball exhibition will be replaced by an Onondaga artist’s work in June , so be sure to get Everson while you still can.
