VIDEO TRANSCRIP: Pulso Central Launch Party
Jade Aulestia: WCNY has officially launched Pulso Central, and they have so many reasons to celebrate. With their dedication to bridging the Hispanic community and Central New York, both La Casita and WCNY collaborated in hosting Pulso Central’s launch party, reminding us that Pulso Central is the first and only Spanish-language radio station in the Central New York region. With the right equipment and a passionate team, Pulso Central’s mission is ready to air.
Aulestia: One of the team members, Stephanie Rawlings, emphasized the significance of sharing these stories on a broader scale.
Stephanie Rawlings: This means so much to them and so I’m going to do my best to make sure all these stories that we get through the Hispanic community are heard and shared to people in CNY or now international and worldwide.
Aulestia: This new community-supported station will feature music and local and national shows hosted by talented individuals that were in attendance tonight. The station will discuss a range of topics relevant to the Spanish-speaking population in Central New York and the Mohawk Valley. But it took a very devoted team to create the foundation and bring this idea into reality.
Aulestia: One of the founding members, Rita Paniagua, believes that the platform they have is everything.
Rita Paniagua: It’s a place where we can actually give them a voice. When I say them, I mean the community.
Aulestia: With the Spanish language being the second most spoken language in the states and a prominent Hispanic/Latino community in CNY, it’s important to have a Spanish radio. And Pulso Central isn’t like any other radio station, it’s a radio station with a pulse.
Paniagua: I mean, pulso means it’s your heartbeat, right? So it’s almost like as a community our heart is beating as one and we love that.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — WCNY has launched Pulso Central, a Spanish-language radio station, marking a milestone as the first of its kind in Central New York. In collaboration with La Casita Cultural Center, WCNY celebrated Pulso Central’s debut with a launch party, highlighting the station’s mission to connect the Hispanic community across Central New York and the Mohawk Valley.
As a community-supported station, Pulso Central plans to broadcast a mix of music, local, and national shows focused on topics relevant to the region’s Spanish-speaking population. With its modern equipment and a passionate team, the station aims to amplify Hispanic voices in Central New York and beyond.
“This means so much to them, and so I’m going to do my best to make sure all these stories that we get through the Hispanic community are heard and shared to people in Central New York or even internationally,” said Pulso Central producer Stephanie Rawlings.
It took a team to bring forward this idea and make it a reality. One of the station’s founding members, Rita Paniagua, expressed the importance of this new platform for community representation.
“It’s a place where we can actually give them a voice. When I say them, I mean the community,” she said.
With Spanish as the second-most spoken language in the United States, and a growing Hispanic community in Central New York, Paniagua believes Pulso Central fills a critical gap. She described the station’s role as a unifying force in the community.
“Pulso means heartbeat,” Paniagua said, “and as a community, our heart is beating as one.”
