VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: Talking Cursive presents homebrewed, award-winning beer
Danny Kramer: The words on the window truly undersell what is happening in this building. There really is a full-fledged brewery constructed inside Talking Cursive. The location of what was once Syracuse’s original commercial brewery became Andrew Brooks’ when he finally made his decision.
Andrew Brooks: Yeah, okay let’s definitely go ahead with this.
Kramer: This meant establishing Talking Cursive in 2017 and honing the craft of brewing beers of all varieties.
Kramer: Once Andrew Brooks and his wife found out they needed to work until two in the morning at a restaurant, the new plan was to learn how to homebrew so they could eventually open The Talking Cursive.
Kramer: The homebrewing equipment Brooks started with certainly isn’t as glamorous as what he has now, but the outcome speaks for itself.
Brooks: We had our first couple of beers brewed, had some people over, did some sampling against other beers, started getting awards—things like that.
Kramer: Yes, awards—and first-place ones—for Brooks’ homebrewed beer. The same award-winning beer can be ordered from these barstools, which will be poured from one of these numerous taps or even served in these locally designed, creative cans. Also, you can always get some to go, so there’s no need to start slurring words if you decide to go to Talking Cursive. Danny Kramer, NCC News.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — The “tasting room” sign on the window barely does the full-fledged brewery that is the Talking Cursive justice. Situated in what was once Syracuse’s original commercial brewery in the 1820s, Andrew Brooks decided it was time to make it his own in 2017.
“Yeah, okay, let’s definitely go ahead with this,” Brooks said.
Brooks and his wife first turned to homebrewing after long nights working at a restaurant convinced them it was time for a change. Their early equipment wasn’t glamorous, but it led to the beer Brooks brews today.
“We had our first couple of beers brewed, had some people over, did some sampling against other beers, started getting awards—things like that,” Brooks said.
Brooks’ beers earned first-place awards in homebrewing tastings. Today, those same award-winning beers can be enjoyed on tap or in their creatively designed cans.
If customers want to try some beer they have the option of either ordering at the bar or grabbing cans to go.
Talking Cursive can be found at 301 Erie Blvd West.
