SYRACUSE, N.Y (NCC News) — The city of Syracuse’s economy often relies on the university, but this summer, it could change.
Concert season is starting in Syracuse, and the city could not be more excited.
Just past 1 p.m. on Saturday, there were already dozens of tailgaters in the quad and on the streets for the renowned group Metallica’s performance that night. This size grew and created a record-breaking attendance of 47,500 fans in the JMA Wireless Dome.
Syracuse University student, Preston Washer, experienced this himself and saw the impact on businesses from last weekend.
“It ultimately brings a lot of people to the area, which ultimately helps businesses around and sort of the city’s economy,” Washer said.
With upcoming events such as the Dave Matthews Band, the Beach Boys and even Styx, the city will see more traffic this summer. Even though the Dome has a large capacity for its fans, the Empower Lakeview Amphitheater will be holding most of these events.
Just three days ago, many Syracuse-run institutions welcomed hundreds of guests for the world-renowned group. Varsity Pizza employee Sueann Klinch is among those who already see a boost in revenue and tourism around the city.
“I see us getting more busier when we have things come around here. I think more people are traveling around,” Klinch said.
The concerts just around the corner are looking to have a major pull on the community, and Syracuse, no matter if it’s in the Dome or a small venue. These events will continue throughout the summer as Dave Matthews Band comes on May 27.
