SYRACUSE, NY (NCC News) – No. 1 Syracuse women’s lacrosse (15-0, 8-0 ACC) faces their final test of the regular season this afternoon against No. 5 Boston College (12-3, 7-1 ACC).
The Orange welcome the Eagles to the SU Soccer Stadium tonight at 7:00pm – tickets to the game are sold out.
The Orange have a chance to make history as they look for their 16th straight win. This would be the longest win streak in program history. They have also never gone undefeated in the regular season.
Meghan Tyrell has a chance to make her own history tonight as well- the Tewaaraton award nominee is three points shy of becoming SU’s all-time points leader. Tyrell needs two more to pass Katie Rowan and become the all-time leader. She is already the active Division I leader in both points and assists.
Boston College is a program SU Head Coach Kayla Treanor is very familiar with – she served as an assistant coach for the Eagles from 2018-2021. In her four seasons, BC went to the NCAA Championship game three times, including when they topped Syracuse in the title game in 2021.
The Eagles are coming into the game on a six-game win streak, most recently topping fellow ACC foe Virginia.
Syracuse is hosting the game at the SU Soccer Stadium instead of the typical JMA Wireless Dome because Treanor wanted her team to play on grass. The Orange played UNC on a grass field last week and look ahead to the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament that will likely be played in Syracuse.
The Dome will be unable to host the Tournament because of graduation festivities- thus, Treanor wants her team to remain comfortable on grass and not return to a turf field in between.
A bit of irony for you- if Syracuse reaches the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament, they will play on grass at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina – the exact field that Syracuse men’s soccer won their national championship on in the fall.
