The Orange allowed 82 points to the Dolphins after allowing 76 per game last season.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS) — After Syracuse men’s basketball’s second (and final) exhibition game last week, head coach Adrian Autry gave a candid update on his squad’s progress.

“You know, I think we spent a lot of time in the summertime with our offense, and I think [we’re] sharing the ball,” said Autry. “I just think, you know, the offense is a little bit ahead of our defense right now.”

And that was certainly the case in Monday’s 86-82 victory over Le Moyne.

The Orange shot nearly 60% on two-pointers in the win and poured on 50 points in the second half. That came after the Dolphins actually led by five at the intermission.

However, Le Moyne kept fighting for the entire contest, and consistently exploited the SU defense. The Dolphins made six of their triples following the break, and got everyone involved in the scoring. Five different players had at least 10 points.

Ultimately, SU’s talent and firepower proved to be too much for Le Moyne. Forwards Jyare Davis and Chris Bell had 22 and 20 points respectively, with Davis chipping in a team-high 12 rebounds as well.

The ‘Cuse aims to sure up its defense in between now and their next game which takes place on Nov. 12 against Colgate.
