SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS) In celebration of National Coffee Day, the Syracuse Mets and Dunkin’ are donating over 300 pounds of coffee to the Central New York community. The move is part of the longstanding partnership between the Mets and the coffee chain as part of their “Runs For Coffee” initiative.

Each home run on the season was one pound of coffee, with more than 300 pounds of coffee being donated to the Food Bank of Central New York. Karen Belcher, Executive Director of the food bank, said she values the food bank’s relationship with both the Syracuse Mets and Dunkin’.

“It’s a relationship that’s existed for quite some time…it’s been a great partnership,” she said. “They both partner with us throughout the year on different events and things we have going on, so we’re so thankful that they are a part of the community and helping give back to the community in the way they do,” she added.

The Food Bank of Central New York serves 11 counties in central and northern New York. Belcher says the food bank distributes over 17 million pounds of food annually, with over 14 million meals going out into the community.

Belcher added that the food bank is always looking for volunteers and help in the community. She says each dollar donated is three meals back into the community.

Wes Hurwitz, Franchise Business Consultant for Dunkin’ Brands, was also on site for the donation.

“Our marketing team has worked with the folks at the Mets for many years…just being a huge part of the community like the Syracuse Mets are helps. It’s really special to be able to help and affect people right here at home,” he said.
