SYRACUSE N.Y. (NCC NEWS) — As students traveled home for Thanksgiving break and prepare to arrive back on campus this weekend, Syracuse Hancock International Airport is making extra precautions to ensure a safe flight. The TSA is expecting 18.3 million families traveling this Thanksgiving season, the largest on record.

“That’s somewhat of a new occurrence recently” said Matthew Szwjbka, a customer experience manager at the airport.

To counter the large influx of travelers, the airport has hired more staff and volunteers, as well as installed new TSA technology to make security safer and easier.

“There’s only so much they can do. If too many people arrive too close to their flights, you’re just not going to get people through the checkpoint fast enough”

Szwjbka recommends all travelers arrive two hours before their flight time in order to get through security and back on campus.
