SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — Syracuse Hancock International Airport is transitioning to a fully cashless operation in the coming months.

Starting April 7, restaurants operated by Delaware North, including Palladino Farms, Johnny Rockets, Dunkin’, Middle Ages Bar & Restaurant and SYRenity Bar & Market, will no longer accept cash. Following that shift, the parking vendor SP+ will also stop accepting cash payments beginning on May 1.

This shift is part of a broader trend in the airport industry to move towards electronic payments which enhances efficiency and security. Delaware North’s Regional Vice President, Andrew Altomare, expressed enthusiasm about the changes.

“We’re excited to introduce a fully cashless experience at Syracuse Hancock International Airport, making transactions faster and more convenient,” Altomare, said. “This shift enhances efficiency, allowing us to serve guests more quickly.”

The move to cashless transactions aims to reduce delays especially in the parking lots. Cash transactions at the parking exits currently take up to four times longer than electronic payments which can contribute to traffic backups. The new Designa parking system installed by the airport last year already offers faster payment options like QR codes, tap to pay, and mobile pay, all contributing to a smoother exit process.

SRAA Chief Commercial Officer Jason Mehl highlighted that the shift to a cashless process will enhance the airport experience.

“Transitioning more of the airport customer experience to cashless will ultimately improve the efficiency and security of our partners’ operations and lead to a smoother, more enjoyable traveler journey,” said Mehl.

The oncoming shift to a fully cashless operation at Syracuse Hancock International Airport hopes to speed up transactions, enhance security and improve passengers travel experience.
