VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: Suspect arrested in double homicide
Nicolette Doherty: Police have taken a suspect into custody today after a double homicide that killed a 33-year-old woman and 11-year-old boy. Our reporter Mason Verdicchio is live in studio with more.
Mason Verdicchio: Thanks, guys. I was on the scene this morning at Roney Road where the Syracuse crime unit was investigating the double homicide. I spoke to a neighbor who lives behind the house, and she told me she heard the shots, and that they vibrated throughout her home. Here’s what else I learned on the scene. Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Roney Road in the southside of Syracuse at 9:30 last night in response to a reported shooting. Police found the two victims with injuries and they were later pronounced dead on the scene. Police took suspect David Huff into custody around 9:30 this morning near Roney Road where the double homicide took place. The DA’s office identified the victims as Huff’s 33-year-old girlfriend and 11-year-old son. I spoke with Ron Spoto, owner of b2b Printing on the corner of Roney Road. He said he wasn’t at the shop last night, but was contacted by police to ensure his safety.
Ron Spoto: Yeah it was a 911 targeted call to the neighborhood saying that there was some criminal activity in the neighborhood.
Verdicchio: He says he’s seen shootings in the area before, but it never gets easier.
Spoto: You always think, you know, just what you hear from anybody. It’s not gonna happen here, you know. Not this close. And still, it’s always shocking.
Verdicchio: Huff has not been formally charged in connection to the shooting yet. Back to you guys.
