VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: Painting a community: How the Liverpool Art Center brings creativity to life
Andrew Della Piana: From beginners picking up a brush for the first time to seasoned painters perfecting their craft, the studio has become a place where imagination and community come together.
Della Piana: For over 20 years, the Liverpool Art Center has offered weekly painting and drawing classes for all ages and all skill levels. It doesn’t matter if you’re the next Bob Ross or just picking up a brush for the first time, artist and owner Sandra Sabene will guide you every step of the way because painting is in her blood.
Sandra Sabene: My mom owned a very similar business, so I grew up surrounded by art and teaching. I knew from a young age that this was what I wanted to do. The arts let you express your ideas and understand yourself a little better and being in a community environment makes it even better.
Della Piana: Sabene has taught thousands of people over the years, helping them find their creative voice through color, texture, and imagination. One of those students is new program designer Brooke Scmedicke, who described the lessons as invaluable.
Brooke Scmedicke: I’ve grown a lot. She’s seen me grow and it’s really nice to come back to the studio now as an adult and working alongside her. It’s really inspiring.
Della Piana; Over the years, the art center has become more than just a studio. It’s a community hub where art connects people of all backgrounds and abilities. Sabene mentioned the experience has been deeply rewarding, both personally and professionally.
Sabene: Just been a journey in listening to the community and what they were hoping to experience in this studio. It’s been my great honor, I’ve met a lot of friends and I call most of them family.
Della Piana: You might find out later why I need to take some of those classes, too. To check out the next available session, go to www.artsandhealing.com
