Election Day report from Jamesville-Dewitt High School
Video Transcript

Chamberlain: Central New Yorkers are casting their ballots here at Jamesville-Dewitt High School and fulfilling their rights to vote in a pivotal election.

Robert Stalter: It’s the most important thing I think we can do as Americans. And I think that, you know, oftentimes I think about other countries that don’t have the ability to do what we can in this country. It’s just amazing and so I feel like my vote counts by doing this today.

Chamberlain: While votes continue to come in, poll workers here are dealing with ballot scanner issues as ballots aren’t being read by the machine. For now, ballots are being stored in a red bag to be processed later as technicians will visit the high school for the second time today to solve the issue. Ballots across the country and in Onondaga County are highlighted by the race for President as recent polls have shown narrow margins between the two candidates.

Stalter: You know I still don’t know who’s going to win and I guess that’s a good thing in a way that people are putting their voice forward. So we’ll have to wait and see and I’m sure both candidates are on pins and needles.

DEWITT, N.Y. (NCC News) — Election Day is underway in Onondaga County at Jamesville-Dewitt High School as locals cast their ballots in deciding the next elected officials.

Voters are expressing their rights as U.S. citizens in a pivotal election at the national and local level.

“It’s the most important thing I think we can do as Americans,” said voter Robert Stalter. “Oftentimes I think about other countries that don’t have the ability to do what we can in this country. It’s just amazing and so I feel like my vote counts by doing this today.”

While votes were coming in, poll workers at the high school dealt with ballot scanner issues as they were not being read by the machine. To deal with this problem, ballots were stored in a red bag to be processed later until technicians visit the polling place. Technicians were at the high school earlier to solve a similar issue.

Even while poll workers have dealt with issues, they are taking the proper precautions in the heat of Election Day as the rest of the U.S. will await the results in an election highlighted by the race for president as recent polls have shown narrow margins between the two candidates.

“I still don’t know who’s going to win and I guess that’s a good thing in a way that people are putting their voice forward,” Stalter said. “So we’ll have to wait and see and I’m sure both candidates are on pins and needles.”
