Earth Day is coming up this Saturday and one organization is making a push to clean up parks and neighborhoods around Onondaga County.
The Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency, abbreviated as OCRRA, is the group that oversees the waste and recycling from Onondaga County communities. This weekend, OCRRA shifts their focus towards hosting their annual Earth Day Litter Cleanup, a long-time staple event of the organization.
OCRAA public information officer Tammy Palmer said that state recognition makes this year even more special.
“State senator Rachel May will be announcing a proclamation recognizing OCRRA for more than thirty year of organizing the Earth Day litter clean-up for Onondaga County.”
OCRRA has coordinated groups at over 280 locations across Onondaga County for Friday and Saturday. Palmer encourages people to step up in their own community.
“I think the great thing about this is it can be co-workers, it can be families, it can be friends, it can be strangers, neighbors, anyone coming together to unite for this common purpose.”
Since the program’s inception in 1991, nearly three million pounds of litter have been removed from the Onondaga County community.
