SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS) — The New York State Fair has released its attendance numbers for this year, and a total of 868,745 people attended the fair. This total is the fair’s second-lowest since 2013. In 2021, 798,095 people attended the fair.

“I think weather probably plays a pretty substantial part in it,” Sean Farnsworth, the associate director of public information for the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets, said.

There were two rainy days during the fair which could have decreased attendance. There was also one day with a gate issue, so they were unable to scan tickets which resulted an estimate of the attendance for that day. The issue persisted for about two hours.

In 2019, 1,329,275 people attended the fair, which is the record attendance number.

Farnsworth wasn’t with the fair in 2019 so he was unable to fully comment on that attendance number.

“I do know in the past… where attendance was really the focal point and not necessarily the quality of the fair, you know, that there were some different deals that were offered throughout the course of the fair, whether it be dollar days for admission or things of that nature, that that simply just were not offered this year,” Farnsworth said.
