Assisted by OnPoint for College, more Syracuse Students take the next step.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – FAFSA completion event was held at Nottingham High School as college application deadlines approach.

FAFSA is the free application for federal student aid. This is one of many FAFSA completion nights in the Syracuse City School District.

These events are run by OnPoint for College, a non-profit that helps students complete their college education. Executive Director of OnPoint, Samuel Rowser, says there is a strong need for these events in the community.

“The number of young people that need this support seems to grow and grow,” he said.

According to Rowser, only 49 percent of Syracuse City School District Students complete the FAFSA form. Director of Special Projects for OnPoint, LaSonya Griggs says completing the form can help students take the next step in their education.

“When a student has the money in place, or the prospects of money, they are much more likely to apply to go to college,” she said.

The FAFSA deadline is June 30th. OnPoint plans to run more events in the future.
