SYRACUSE, N.Y (NCC NEWS) — After 48 years of business, retail shop Shirt World has decided to shut down. According to syracuse.com, a national tenant is coming in and taking over the property. The last day of business will be on Oct. 27. Longtime owners Dave and Sandy Jacobs are closing down a shop that was a gameday favorite to its customers.
“They have a really nice selection in there, there’s a lot of nice jerseys and SU memorabilia,” said Syracuse native and grad student Teddy Caputo. “The ownership is really cool too and the guy who runs the places, he’s a really nice guy to talk to.”
Shirt World first opened in 1976, where Jacobs’ parents began the business while Dave was a star kicker for the Syracuse football team. Jacobs was a star kicker for the Orange, where he led all independent college teams for field goals made back in 1977. After college, Jacobs went off to play for mutiple teams in the NFL while also playing in other leagues such as USFL and the AFL.
To persuade customers to come down during their last week, Shirt World is offering a super sale where items including, t-shirts, hoodies, jackets, plus more are up to eighty percent off. This week marks the perfect time to grab something nice for yourself at a cheap price.
There’s no word on what national chain is moving into the store, but the Jacobs expect whoever’s coming in to prosper immediately due to the foundation and environment they created.
