Dylan Nairin: One of the staples for Syracuse fans to get their merchandise has closed. Shirt World here on Marshall Street has officially shut its doors after 48 years.

Nairin: If you are a fan of Syracuse university sports, Marshall Street has always been a go to spot to get merchandise. Both Manny’s and Shirt World have been around for a long time, but with Shirt World closing earlier this week, Manny’s will become the go to spot.

Nairin: Manny’s has been open on Marshall Street since 1949, and has been a prime spot for Syracuse fans to get clothing and merchandise. The store also has many items that are not related to sports or clothing, such as Otto the Orange plushies and holiday decorations.

Nairin: Bell Bee is one of the employees at Manny’s, and he talks about when Manny’s is most popular.

Bell Bee: “It depends on how the teams are playing. But typically, football and basketball are the go tos”

Nairin: The store is the most popular during football and basketball season, especially on gamedays with students and alumni all on campus. The positive changes and new arrivals of the athletic programs at Syracuse have made fans excited about them to Manny’s benefit.

Nairin: Shoppers are going to have to adjust their strategy for buying merchandise without Shirt World being an option.

Bee: “Our customers would typically bounce between the 2 stores, and then they would make their decisions and go back to whichever one they prefer”

Nairin: Manny’s has not seen a significant impact in sales since the closure, but Bee does expect there to be more revenue over the next few weeks.

Syracuse, N.Y (NCC News)– Earlier this week, a store that had been a staple in the community for Syracuse merchandise closed its doors for good. Shirt World had been open on Marshall Street for 48 years before closing. The other store for Syracuse merchandise, Manny’s, is expected to see a rise in revenue in the coming weeks following the closure.

Manny’s opened on Marshall Street in 1949, and has been a prime spot for Syracuse fans to get clothing and merchandise. Although they have a lot of sports jerseys and merchandise, they also have items that people who love the school could be interested in, such as Otto the Orange plushies amd various holiday decorations, especially during the winter season. Shirt World closed in the middle of the football season, with the basketball season just starting as well.

“It depends on how the teams are playing. But typically, football and basketball are the go tos,” said Bell Bee, an employee at Manny’s.

With the football team 6-2 and the basketball team opening the season with a win, Manny’s is expecting that fans would come to the games and buy merchandise. The positive changes and new players coming to the school help keep business flowing even on days with no home games. While both stores were open, customers tended to shop a certain way.

“Our customers would typically bounce between the 2 stores, and then they would make their decisions and go back to whichever one they prefer,” said Bee.

Now that Shirt World is closed and Manny’s is the only option, people no longer have the opportunity to compare prices, quality, and other factors between the stores, like before.

Both of these stores were known for their welcoming environment and Syracuse spirit, which was a main reason why students, alumni, and fans all found themselves coming back whenever there was a game at the Dome. Manny’s has not seen a sharp and noticeable boost in their sales yet, as it has only been about a week since Shirt World closed, but they do expect to see more sales soon as football season and basketball season start to overlap.
