Video Transcript – Liverpool voter makes sacrifice for Election Day

Joseph Duffey: Danielle Dawley makes her way to Redeemer Covenant Church in Liverpool to vote at 6 a.m. The Election Day site is one of many to host Onondaga County voters. But moments earlier, Dawley, fresh off a late shift, was so early that the polling site managers weren’t even ready for her.

Danielle Dawley: To make it simple, I just want leaders who are for the greater good, for everybody no matter what you look like, no matter where you come from, no matter what your social status is.”)

Duffey: There’s no reward for how early voters arrive to perform this civic duty, but for Dawley, she says her voting is for the people she loves and especially the ultimate prize in her life.

Dawley: And I have a small child, so I always have, you know, I want to leave him in a better world than I left it.

Duffey: Dawley says it’s, reggretably, her first time voting in a local election, but on this go-around, she vows to turn the page and be more involved. Joseph Duffey, NCC News.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – Redeemer Covenant Church in Liverpool was one of many voting sites in Onondaga County. For Danielle Dawley, fresh off a late shift, she was willing to make an early morning sacrifice.

“To make it simple, I just want leaders who are for the greater good for everybody, no matter what you look like, no matter where you come from, no matter what your social status is,” Dawley said.

Dawley was so early to the morning opening at the church that the site managers were not ready for her.

While there’s no reward for showing up earlier, Dawley has learned to take her civic duty seriously – not just nationally, but locally.

It is her first time voting in a local election, but on this go-around, she vows to become more active in local elections after today.

“I have a small child,” Dawley said. “I want to leave him in a better world than I left it.”

Clearly, for Dawley, voting is more than casting a piece of paper at the ballot box. It’s a decision that she says has the power to help the next generation – including the people she loves.
