VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: Les Misérables returns to the Landmark Theater.
Mason Verdicchio: This week, one of the most popular Broadway shows of all time returns to Syracuse. Les Misérables, or Les Mis, opened at the Landmark Theater last night for its first time since 2016.
Verdicchio: General manager at the Landmark Theater, Marc Albert, says that he expects big audience turnouts for the critically acclaimed production.
Marc Albert: So a show like Les Mis, which is going to guarantee almost sell out business for eight performances over the course of a week, is always great for the theater and great for the whole downtown community.
Verdicchio: Albert’s prediction has been strong so far. On Tuesday, Les Mis opened to a near sell-out crowd at the historic 2,800 seat Landmark Theater. Albert says he expects that trend to continue into the weekend.
Albert: It’s growing for the next three or four days. There’s still some real good seats left for Saturday night and Sunday night, especially if people are interested. Sunday night would be a great chance to see the performance.
Verdicchio: It’s been eight years since Le Mis came to the Landmark Theater. With such a big turnout expected for this week’s showings, how is The Landmark team preparing for it?
Verdicchio: Albert says that the entirety of the production and stage equipment for the show was brought in on Monday, including props, sets, and costumes. He and his team worked 18-plus hour shifts to make sure everything was ready for this week’s shows.
Albert: We had four different one night shows last week, which finished up on Saturday with Disney Junior. So I have one day to get the theater ready for these folks to come in and start setting up on Monday.
Verdicchio: Les Mis runs the Landmark through Sunday night. You can find more information about the show at Landmarktheater.org. In downtown Syracuse. I’m Mason Verdicchio, NCC news.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — The critically acclaimed Broadway show Les Misérables is showing at the Landmark Theater in downtown Syracuse this week.
Les Misérables opened to a near-sell-out crowd on Tuesday, Oct. 22, according to general manager Marc Albert.
“We had about 27 out of 2,800 for opening night,” Albert said. “It’s growing for the next three or four days and there are still some real good seats left for Saturday night and Sunday night.”
This week marks the production’s first run at the Landmark Theater since 2016. Albert says it will only benefit the theater and the community to have Les Misérables return to the historic venue.
“So a show like Les Mis, which is going to guarantee almost sell out business for eight performances over the course of a week, is always great for the theater and great for the whole downtown community,” said Albert.
Les Misérables’ previous stop was in Rochester at the West Herr Auditorium Theatre. The final show there took place on Sunday, Oct. 20. The show opened at The Landmark on Oct. 22, meaning a quick turnaround for both the production and the Landmark Theater.
“The issue that I deal with is that we had four different one-night shows last week which finished up on Saturday,” Albert said. “So I had one day to get the theater ready, so that these folks could come in and start setting up on Monday.”
Albert and his team worked over 18 hours on Sunday and Monday preparing the theater while the production brought in the hundreds of props, sets, costumes and technical equipment necessary to put on the show.
The show runs through Sunday, Oct. 27. Tickets are for sale on Ticketmaster or in person at the Landmark Theater. More information can be found here.
