SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News ) – A four-star recruit quarterback committed to Syracuse University football for 2023. LaNorris Sellers comes from South Florence High School in South Carolina and is considered a dual-threat quarterback. His coach, Andrew Marlowe said he is the most talented player he has worked with in 13 years of coaching.
“You know, it’s rare to have a guy with his size, he’s six feet three inches, 215 pounds… runs incredibly well,” Marlowe said. “He runs tough but is also shifty and can make people miss and of course he’s got a big arm. I mean he can really launch it.”
Sellers was originally committed to the University of Virginia. However, when he made the switch to Syracuse he celebrated on social media and was met with warm welcomes from former Syracuse players like Eric Dungey and Donovan McNabb.
Sellers said that coaches were a big part of why he decided to make the switch to Syracuse.
“I met coach Babers and he talked to my parents, and they really liked him too, so I just felt like it was a good fit for me,” Sellers said.
He also revealed that because he had been committed to quarterback coach Jason Beck, when the coach left the University of Virginia for Syracuse, it felt fitting that Sellers should follow him.
However, Sellers is not just a talented player, as Marlowe said he is dedicated to school and possesses many qualities other people his age do not.
“LaNorris has been mature for a long time,” Marlowe said. “He’s going into his senior year now and he’s really like having another coach. He does not play around a whole lot and he is really focused.”
Sellers has a 4.95 GPA and Marlowe said he is a leader on and off the field.
“If my little boy can grow up to be LaNorris, as a person, I will consider myself to be an accomplished father,” Marlowe said.
Sellers will not be officially committed to the Syracuse football program until he signs his National Letter of Intent sometime in December. However he said he will continue to practice and improve even before he puts on the orange jersey.
