SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS) — Varsity Pizza recently took the spotlight on social media as the famous president of Barstool Sports recently reviewed its cheese pizza.
Dave Portnoy, founder and president of Barstool Sports, was recently spotted in Syracuse on July 29, wearing a Gerry McNamara shirt that he bought from Shirt World. He was also trying a cheese pizza from Varsity Pizza.
Portnoy is famous for trying cheese pizzas from around the country and reviewing them on his social media with a segment called “one-bite.” In these segments he tastes and reviews the pizza on camera and posts the reviews on his social media accounts.
Portnoy tweeted his review of Varsity Pizza where he gave the pizza a 6.5 out of 10 stars.
“This is exactly what I would expect from a college pizza,” said Portnoy on his Twitter post.
According to Matthew Robinson, a worker at Varsity Pizza, some people disagreed with this rating. Though this is not the ideal ten star rating Varsity Pizza would have liked, the score has not hurt their business.
Robinson was there at the time and got to meet Portnoy when he ordered the pizza and said he was a great guy. Robinson said that ever since Portnoy came to Varsity Pizza, a lot of people have started asking about him when they come in.
“Honestly we’ve been around so long he’s only just added on to the legacy here and making it better and cooler for kids to come and get slices after class and in between class,” said Robinson.
