SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS) — The Syracuse Planning Commission has given the go-ahead for another hotel in the city to develop into an apartment building.

During a meeting on Monday, the commission unanimously approved plans to divvy the Mayflower Hotel into 52 apartments. According to a report from the Syracuse Office of Zoning Administration, six of those units must be classified as affordable under the city’s zoning laws.

While the 100-year-old building was purchased back in April, the intent to transform was revealed recently.

Additionally, those planning documents state that the Mayflower ceased hotel operations on Oct. 2.

This comes shortly after the Salt City lost hotel rooms at both the Syracuse University Sheraton and the downtown Crowne Plaza.

The latter is set to become an apartment complex after owners abruptly shut down hotel operations earlier this month. Meanwhile, SU completed its long-awaited attempt to revamp the Sheraton into a student dormitory over the summer.
