High ticket prices could drive fans away from Syracuse Metallica concert

Genae Horst: Could high ticket prices for Metallica’s upcoming concert at the JMA Dome be driving customers away? NCC News’ Jason Ruppert is live in the newsroom with the response from concert goers.

Jason Ruppert: Syracuse University’s JMA Wireless Dome will be host to global rock icons Metallica this weekend, and fans couldn’t be more excited.

Zach Kile: I’m really looking forward to it. I think it’s such a unique experience that a band this big is coming right – right to Syracuse.

Ruppert: But with rising excitement comes rising costs, and with ticket prices going past $100 a ticket, possible attendees like Jaiden Morris can’t justify buying the ticket.

Jaiden Morris: It would have to be cheaper, and it would have to be in the pit to get the full experience.

Ruppert: The high ticket prices aren’t deterring Metallica super fans like Zach Kile, who thinks that the dome is a great place to see the band, no matter the seat.

Kile: It’ll be loud. It’ll be fun. But I also think it’s just being in the dome. I feel like any seat you have you’re gonna get a good view of the stage, so I think it’s pretty awesome.

Ruppert: Metallica’s concert in Syracuse is the band’s latest stop on their M72 World Tour. For NCC News, I’m Jason Ruppert.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — High ticket prices could affect how many fans come to the Metallica concert happening this weekend in the JMA Wireless Dome.

This Saturday will mark the first time in almost 30 years that global rock icons Metallica are performing in Syracuse, and the first time that the band is playing in the JMA Wireless Dome. This is making some Metallica super fans, like Zach Kile, really excited for the environment that the band will bring to the dome during the concert.

“It’ll be loud. It’ll be fun.” Kile said. “But I also think just being in the dome, I feel like any seat you have you’re gonna get a good view of the stage so I think it’s pretty awesome.”

The same sentiment isn’t felt by everyone who might go to the concert. Ticket costs to see Metallica have been on the rise with tickets in the top level of the Dome now costing over $100. This is causing some possible attendees, like Jaiden Morris, to stay away from the concert altogether.

“It would have to be cheaper, and it would have to be in the pit to get the full experience.” Morris said.

The tickets in the pit that Morris would be looking for would run him about $300, and tickets in Metallica’s “Snake Pit” would be almost $1000.

Kile wasn’t deterred by these high prices though. He bought his tickets to see the band in February for $115 before fees, but he wouldn’t let the price tag ruin a night to see Metallica.

“It’s pretty awesome that I can pretty much walk to see my favorite band.” Kile said. “I’m really looking forward to it.”

Metallica’s concert in Syracuse is the band’s latest stop on their M72 World Tour with their next shows happening in Canada.
