VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: GRWM: Get ready with me videos are fostering virtual companionship
Maddie Harp: Get ready with me for bid day here at Syracuse. Get ready with me for Christmas Eve while I talk about the holidays. Get ready with me to move back to Syracuse for my last semester of college ever. Get ready with me for an interview for NCC News.
Casey Lange: If you’re on TikTok, you’ve probably heard the phrase “get ready with me.” These videos give content creators a chance to share their daily routines in a personal way. But in a fast-moving social media world where trends fade quickly, what makes this style of video stand the test of time? Content creator Maddie Harp believes the secret lies in connection.
Harp: At the end of the day, a great ready with me, people start coming back because they want to hang out with me. They want to hear what I have to say. They are very personal.
Lange: Harp says fostering a strong community with her 14,000 followers and staying authentic with her audience has been her key to success.
Harp: I want people to find a sense of relatability and able to feel connected. I want them to feel like its a safe space.
Lange: And the numbers back it up. According to the Associated Press, the hashtag get ready with me has had over 153 billion views on TikTok. More than just a trend, it’s about companionship– one video at a time, and content creator Kayley Decina agrees.
Kayley Decina: Cause people just do want a friend. They want someone on Instagram or TikTok that are like, ‘oh I get this person and she gets me.’ This is relatable and casual content.
Lange: So, next time you’re scrolling through TikTok, don’t be surprised if you find yourself getting ready…with a new internet best friend. For NCC News, I’m Casey Lange.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS) – If you’re on TikTok, you’ve probably heard the phrase “get ready with me.” These videos give content creators a chance to share their daily routines in a more personal and casual way. But in a fast-moving social media world where trends fade quickly, what makes this style of video stand the test of time? Content creator Maddie Harp believes the secret lies in connection.
“At the end of the day, it’s a ‘get ready with me,’” Harp said. “People start coming back because they want to hang out with me. They want to hear what I have to say. They are very personal.”
Harp’s TikTok following has grown rapidly over the past year. Just a few months ago she reached the milestone of 10,000 followers, and as of today she has over 14,000. She has always found comfort in talking about her thoughts and feelings. She said she uses her TikTok as a form of journaling. Harp said fostering a strong community with her followers and staying authentic with her audience has been her key to success.
“I want people to find a sense of relatability and be able to feel connected,” Harp said. “I want them to feel like it’s a safe space to talk about things that aren’t normally talked about.’’
The numbers back it up. According to the Associated Press, the hashtag get ready with me has had over 153 billion views on TikTok. More than just a trend, it’s about companionship – one video at a time, and content creator Kayley Decina agreed.
Kayley Decina is a recent graduate of Syracuse University and has always loved posting to TikTok. It was about two years ago when she started posting more frequently and gaining a following. As of today, she has over 10,000 followers on her page. Decina is not worried about this video style going away if the TikTok ban goes into effect. She emphasized the importance of the genuine human connection “get ready with me” videos foster, and emphasized that they are invaluable in today’s harsh world.
“Cause people just do want a friend,” Decina said. “They want someone on Instagram or TikTok that are like, ‘oh, I get this person and she gets me.’ This is relatable and casual content. It is a break from the harshness of the rest of my feed each day.”
Whether it’s putting on makeup or picking out an outfit, or showing a daily routine, get ready with me videos prove that sometimes things really are just better together. So, next time you’re scrolling through TikTok, don’t be surprised if you find yourself getting ready…with a new internet best friend.
