SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – Drumlins Country Club in Syracuse, New York has had difficulty trying to stay open and being able to provide a great experience for golfers in Upstate New York but not for the reason you may think.
Syracuse is known for having weather that can change within minutes from sunny weather to snowing for hours. With this constant uncertainty, Drumlin has to be able to prepare and stay on top of the changes.
But this weather is not only changing the options of the course. It is not allowing members and golfers to experience the course. Member Bryan DiMencio said that Drumlins has allowed him to find a place that he can call a second home.
“My membership has been great. During the season it does get tough to get out on the course sometimes but when I’m finally out there, it’s like an escape from my problems” said DiMencio.
With the course being prepared to give the members a place to relax and enjoy the sport, the weather is usually the only thing interfering with that idea.
One big thing the club thinks is a key to growing the game is the constant appreciation from the college students from Syracuse University and SUNY. The students are able to play for free there with a valid university ID which allows students to experience the course as well. With exams coming in the upcoming weeks for students, Head Golf Professional Sean Dadey said that the students are key to growing the game and allowing them to have an escape from the stresses of school.
“I think it is a fantastic release for the students to come out and actually potentially grow the game. I know we get new players that come out and try either at the range and then out on the golf course,” said Dadey.
With the start of the active season coming up for golfers around the country, Drumlins and other courses are ready to accompany their members for another season.
