SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – A Central New York native crossed a major item off his bucket list on Monday by finishing one of the world’s most prestigious Marathons.
Brendan McGinn, a 45-year-old physician from Fayetteville, completed the 129th Boston Marathon in 2 hours, 58 minutes, placing 4,117th out of over 28,000 runners.
“I was shooting for under three (hours)… and I got underneath it,” McGinn said. “Not bad for a 45-year-old.”
McGinn trained for months leading up to the race, navigating icy roads, freezing temperatures and the occasional treadmill slog in preparation.
“It was a pretty miserable winter, and running outside was difficult to say the least,” McGinn said. “The usual treadmill hamster wheel kind of drives you crazy after a while.”
To make matters worse, a lingering injury in his left leg disrupted his carefully laid-out training schedule. Still, McGinn remained committed to his goal.
“I really was skeptical that I actually had done enough,” McGinn said. “But everything went really well.”
Now back home in Fayetteville, McGinn says another marathon may be on the horizon — and after checking Boston off his list, he’s not ruling out the New York City Marathon.
