East Syracuse voters express importance of showing up to polls.

Video Transcript:

Augie Walters: As the sun rose over Syracuse on election day, voters showed up to the East Syracuse Village Court polling site to cast their ballots. For Rob Sweeney, the ballot this year is an important one, due to one of the propositions concerning term limits for county legislators.

Rob Sweeney: Well I am all for a terms limit. I do not like being a “career person” so I think that they should have limits. You’d like to see some change.

Augie Walters: And in order to see change down the line, Bernie Reschke says it is a right as a citzen of this country to show up on a day like today.

Bernie Reschke: It is the American way to vote today. I think it is your duty as a citizen to vote.

Augie Walters: Sweeney agrees, and as he puts pen to paper to fill in his votes, he knows his opinon matters.

Rob Sweeney: I think everybody should vote because every vote counts. Some people will think “my vote will not count” but it does, because it could come down to one vote making the decision.

Augie Walters: And even though East Syracuse may only have 3,000 residents, every vote is a voice. Augie Walters, NCC News.

EAST SYRACUSE (NCC News) — Voters in East Syracuse like Bernie Reschke used Election Day to stress the importance of making their voices heard.

Reschke took a trip to the East Syracuse Village Court to cast his ballot Tuesday morning because he said doing so is a civic responsibility.

“It is the American way to vote today,” Reschke said. “I think it is your duty as a citizen to vote.”

While it may be a responsibility, Rob Sweeney, another voter in East Syracuse, also said each and every vote can make a difference.

“I think everybody should vote because every vote counts,” Sweeney said. “Some people will think ‘my vote will not count,’ but it does, because it could come down to one vote making the decision.”

Both Reschke and Sweeney were at the polls prior to eight in the morning on Tuesday, starting their day by making their political opinions heard.
