VICTORIA DALY: CARS HAVE BEEN DRIVING IN AND OUT OF THE COMMUNITY CENTER’S PARKING LOT ALL MORNING AS SYRACUSE RESIDENTS HAVE BEEN EAGER TO CAST THEIR VOTE. SINCE THIS LOCATION OPENED AT 6 AM TO MY CURRENT TIME OF 9 AM, THEY HAVE HAD 130 VOTERS, WHICH IS A GOOD NUMBER, SAID POLL SITE MANAGER MARTIN PINE. PINE HAS BEEN WORKING AS A POLL SITE MANAGER FOR THE LAST 8 YEARS, AND SAID THIS ELECTION’S EARLY VOTER TURNOUT HAS BEEN IMPRESSIVE.
MARTIN PINE: “WE’RE HERE THE 26TH OF OCTOBER FOR EARLY VOTING AND WE HAD 14 HUNDRED PEOPLE HERE THAT DAY WHICH FOR ME WAS LIKE TWICE WHAT I USUALLY GET.”
VICTORIA DALY: BUT IF IT WASN’T FOR THIS POLLING SITE STAFF, RESIDENTS COULDN’T EVEN COME FILL OUT THEIR BALLOTS EARLY. THE STAFF ARRIVES AT FIVE A.M., OPENS ITS DOORS AT 6. THEY CLOSE AT NINE P.M. AND LEAVE ONCE EVERYTHING IS CLEANED UP AND COUNTED FOR AROUND 10 P.M. THAT’S A 17 HOUR WORK DAY. : BUT THE STAFF FEELS IT IS WORTH IT AS THEY PRODUCE THESE MONUMENTAL NUMBERS.
MARTIN PINE: “THE FIRST DAY IN THE WHOLE COUNTY WE HAD 11 THOUSAND PEOPLE. SUPPOSEDLY, AS OF SUNDAY NIGHT I THINK OVERALL IN THE COUNTY WE HAD 90 WHICH IS WAY ABOVE WHAT WE NORMALLY GET FOR EARLY VOTING.”
VICTORIA DALY: DUE TO THE CONTROVERSY OF THIS ELECTION, NO VOTERS FELT COMFORTABLE SPEAKING TO THE CAMERA, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE JUST LAST SATURDAY THERE WAS AN ALTERCATION AT THIS SITE BETWEEN A TRUMP SUPPORTER AND AN AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN.
VICTORIA DALY: I’M REPORTING FROM THE NORTH SYRACUSE COMMUNITY CENTER HERE ON SOUTH BAY ROAD. AND THIS PARKING LOT HAS BEEN VERY BUSY THIS MORNING AS VOTERS HAVE BEEN FILING IN AND OUT. THE POLLING SITES CLOSE AT 9 P.M. TONIGHT, SO BE SURE TO GET OUT AND GO VOTE. FOR DEMOCRACY IN ACTION, I’M VICTORIA DALY.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS) — Election Day brought out crowds of CNY residents to the North Syracuse Community Center to cast their votes this morning.
Not only is it the presidential race between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, but the NY Senate seat is open and the 22nd Congressional District race which directly impacts Onondaga County.
Martin Pine, a poll site manager, said this election saw record breaking numbers in the voting process as 50,000 more resident’s registered to vote in this election than the prior.
Pine said ” I remember one time we had 15 people sign up for a voting shift… We’re over about 130 people right that’s not too bad over the first three hours.”
Pine credited this turnout to how early these politicans campaigned for office.
