EL SEGUNDO, CA (NCC News) — Barbie has announced the first ‘Kenbassador’ doll is NBA superstar Lebron James.

In the announcement press release Mattell announced their intention to celebrate “influential Ken figures who are creating positive change and contributing to a better world for all.”

The release is part of a parntership with the Lebron James Family Foundation, which seeks to “empower the kids of Akron, Ohio with support, resources, and hope they need to succeed in the game of life – even if the odds are stacked against them.” James’ loyalty to his roots was cited by Mattell as a major reason for this partnership.

“For the LeBron James Family Foundation and the families we serve, this is so much more than a doll. It represents the reality that a kid from anywhere can make a difference,” said Michele Campbell, Executive Director of the LeBron James Family Foundation.

The announcement comes over a year since the Barbie movie saw major box office and cultural success, revitalizing both the Barbie and Ken brands.

“We are excited to bring fans a new presentation of Ken that celebrates LeBron as a role model, his icon status, lasting impact on culture, and dedication to setting a positive example for the next generation to reach their limitless potential,” said Krista Berger, Senior Vice President of Barbie and Global Head of Dolls, Mattel.

The doll recognizes James’ culutral and style influences in its clothing combination that features a James Family Foundation t-shirt, Nike Terminator High sneakers, and Beats headphones. It even stands one inch taller than the standard Ken doll, a nod to James’ 6-foot-8 frame.

There will be an exclusive drop at the UNDEFEATED store on La Brea in Los Angeles, CA on Saturday, April 12. The doll will be available nationwide at select Target stores and online at Target.com, Walmart, Amazon, and Mattell Creations starting Monday, April 14.
