BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. (NCC News) — A local brewery is set to host a suicide prevention fundraiser on Friday.
The Zach Helfrich Memorial Fund will be having their annual fundraiser at WT Brews in Baldwinsville at the end of the week. The fund was started by Rob Helfrich in memory of his son, who died by suicide in 2019.
The brewery will be featuring the Zach Attack 4 Life New England Double IPA on their beer list and will host the Bold Coast Lobster food truck, a favorite of Zach’s. Helfrich, a regular customer at WT Brews, recalls always bringing his son when a certain food truck was on location.
“When Zach was alive, I’d often bring him down with me, especially when the Bold Coast Lobster Truck is here, because he was a bit of a foodie, and he loved his lobster rolls,” Helfrich said.
The event is set to provide awareness for both parents and kids. Helfrich urges all, no matter your age, to seek help when needed.
When asked about the National Suicide Prevention Hotline updating its number to three digits, Helfrich saw this as a move in the right direction.
“I think that’s a phenomenal thing that they’re doing because people will remember 9-8-8, they’re not going to remember talk to me or text,” Helfrich said.
For every $10 donation, each customer 21 and older will receive a pint of beer. The proceeds from this event will benefit the Psychiatry High Risk Program at Upstate Medical University.
WT Brews is located at 18 E. Genesee St. in Baldwinsville. Visit The Zach Helfrich Memorial Fund’s official website for more information on future events:
