Credits earned at Cazenovia can be put towards a similar LeMoyne degree
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS) – Central New York will soon be losing one of its longstanding college options. Cazenovia College, which was founded in 1824, announced in December that it will cease operations at the end of the academic year due to financial issues.
While there will be one final graduating class next month, that still leaves around 600 undergraduate students searching for a place to continue their studies. Some of them will choose a new city to call home, but for those who wish to remain in the region, at least one other local institution is giving them an easy option.
LeMoyne College has partnered with Cazenovia in the past, and the DeWitt campus will do so one final time before the later shuts down for good. It is offering special transfer conditions for current Cazenovia students – as long as they are in good academic standing, all of their credits will transfer to one of 15 similar programs at LeMoyne. Additionally, the Jesuit institute promises a financial aid package “in line” with what students received at Cazenovia.
LeMoyne decided to become a “teach-out” option for Cazenovia shortly after the December announcement that it would close. Director of Communications and Public Affairs Joseph Della Posta said that the option to easily transfer into LeMoyne should help local students and prevent some of them from having to make a difficult decision.
“LeMoyne and Caz are somewhat regional institutions, so students are, most of them, probably from this area, or at least Upstate New York,” Della Posta said. “Those people who decided to go to Cazenovia College will probably be very happy here.”
LeMoyne will also adopt the Cazenovia archives into its library, as well as take over its alumni network.
While not every current Cazenovia student will take advantage of this opportunity, at least having one simple option to continue their college education should be comforting.
