Gwinn says they currently have funding to create five commercials, but they’d like to do more if they can raise additional support. The last day to nominate a business or organization is Labor Day, September 1st. Jahi Guise, live from the news room.

SYRACUSE , N.Y. (NCC News) — CNY on Camera is offering local businesses, organizations, nonprofits and more the opportunity to have a professionally filmed and produced commercial at no cost.

Elias Gwinn, president of CNY Film Professionals—which launched the CNY on Camera program—is using his passion for filmmaking to grow the industry in Central New York. The opportunity for smaller filmmakers to create big productions with a modest budget is difficult, but with the assistance of a local assemblyman and support from the state of New York, there is more possibility.

“I created CNY on Camera to help local production companies compete in that space, while simultaneously achieving a lot of other benefits,” Gwinn said. “For example, providing marketing opportunities for local businesses, nonprofits and cultural institutions, and providing jobs for film crew and professionals.”

The program features a committee that will select five businesses from all those nominated. Anyone can nominate a local business or organization. The committee will also choose local filmmakers for the project and provide them with everything needed to produce the commercial.

“Currently, we’re funded to do five commercials,” Gwinn said. “We are hoping and working toward raising more funds to continue the project. We would love for the sixth commercial to follow immediately after the fifth, and then the seventh immediately after that.”

If you know of a business or organization in Central New York that stands out for its contributions, consider submitting a nomination. The deadline for nominations is Labor Day, Sept. 1.
