Town officials say buildings are outdated and overcrowded.
The plan calls for a new $39 million complex for the police station, town offices, and court — all under one roof — to better serve the growing community.

Councilor William Nicholson says the project was removed from tonight’s agenda to allow more time to address residents’ questions.

“A project of this size and scope — a proposal like this — it’s really too large to move this quickly on. So that’s one issue. And of course, as mentioned, public engagement really is number one.”

Councilor Michael Nesci says the proposal should go to voters next November.

“We should be putting a proposal on referendum next November that meets the community’s needs and expectations.”

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – The Town of Manlius has postponed a vote on its $39 million town hall plan after removing the referendum from the agenda.
Manlius town officials have pulled a proposed referendum from the July 30, 2025, agenda that would have moved forward a $39 million plan to build a new municipal complex.
Officials say current buildings are outdated, overcrowded, and no longer meet the needs of a growing community. The project would combine the town court, police station, and administrative offices under one roof.
Councilor William Nicholson said the delay is about ensuring the public has a chance to weigh in.
“A project of this size and scope — a proposal like this — it’s really too large to move this quickly on,” Nicholson said. “Public engagement really is number one.”
Councilor Michael Nesci added that the proposal should be brought to a public vote next year.
“We should be putting a proposal on referendum next November that meets the community’s needs and expectations,” he said.
No new date has been set for a vote or public hearing, but officials say more discussions are expected in the coming months.
