SEAN JORDAN: Detective Columbo is making his return to audiences, but this time not on television. “Prescription: Murder” will be performed at the local CNY Playhouse, opening this weekend. According to Eric Grode, a theatre critic for the New York Times, the story behind “Prescription: Murder” is quite the interesting one.
ERIC GRODE: Prescription: Murder had been based on another little TV thing they had done, which didn’t do well… they kinda dusted off this play and turned it into essentially an episode of Columbo.
JORDAN: While some may think the play is based off the series, this play acted as the pilot for the series to get off the ground.
GRODE: If people like this character and like his style, then we can probably easily create weeks and weeks of murders to solve.
