David Horn (NCC News): Little Josh Jr. comes to Schiller Park with his dad three times a week. But on Tuesday, Josh will be at daycare while his dad goes to the polls.

Josh Palmer: It’s very important because if we don’t vote then we are just…the same cycle repeats itself and I’m ready to break the cycle and drop the prices. Hahaha.

Horn: On Nov 3., it will be a half day for Syracuse students. But for some families, like Jamie Page’s, the half day is actually more hurtful than it is helpful.

Jamie Page: I find it’s pretty hard to find child care to do things like go out and vote. I have had problems with my kid, getting time off to be able to vote because of that.

Horn: Palmer found daycare help through the organization Child Care Solutions. He got a discounted price on Election Day daycare based on his income. But if daycare or the playground isn’t an option, Palmer suggests taking kids to the polls.

Palmer:It’s a learning experience for them as well. Once they get older, like the seven to eight-year-old range, so they can know what’s going on in their country, their economy, and everything. So I think it’s a good thing to show your kids voting.”

Horn: With daycare and a voting plan, casting a ballot is as easy as their A-B-C’s. David Horn, NCC News.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — Voters need an Election Day plan to make time to head to the polls.

For parents, that also includes figuring out a plan for their children.

In Onondaga County, some schools have a regular full day of school, others have a half day, and some even have no school.

The Syracuse City School District has a half day of school which some parents said is actually more hurtful than helpful.

“It’s pretty hard to find child care to do things like that to go out and vote,” said Jamie Page. “I have had problems with my kids getting time off to be able to vote because of that.”

For Josh Palmer, he planned ahead of time where his children would be on Election Day to make sure he had enough time to cast his ballot.

Palmer said it is very important to vote because if not “the same cycle repeats itself and I’m ready to just break the cycle and drop the prices.”

Palmer used the organization Child Care Solutions to get a discounted price on daycare for his son based on his income.

If daycare is not an option, Palmer suggests that parents should take their children to the polls.

“It’s a learning experience for them as well,” Palmer said. “Once they get older, like the 7 to 8 year old range, so they can know what’s going on in their country, their economy and everything. So I think it’s a good thing to show your kids voting.”
