Michael Williamson Jr. (Mets fan): Yeah, spending time with her. And, this is my first baseball game, in a very long time and it’s beautful day and it’s not too packed. It’s great.
Fongvongsa (reporter): Some families were there for another treat before the game began.
Douglas Combs (Mets fan): My daughter’s with the Mexico School. So, she came out and sang, did a good job of doing it. Came out here, and enjoyed the game.

Andy Mower (Mets fan): Absolutely, look at these guys. They’re great.
Fongvongsa (reporter): To add onto the festivities, some of the fans even stayed after the game to come down on the field behind me. One family says what they have been looking forward to during the game.
Dan and Lucas Whitmore (Mets fans): We wanted to run the bases. Yeah, we’re gonna run the bases and play catch.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS) — This Father’s Day, some families and friends chose to spend their day at the ballgame. The Syracuse Mets offered a free jersey, a brunch, and some post-game activities.

Several of the dads echoed that being able to be with their kids made the day special.

“Yeah, spending time with her,” Michael Williamson Jr. said. “And, this is my first baseball game, in a very long time, and it’s a beautiful day and it’s not too packed. It’s great.”

Other families were there to see their kids, who attend Mexico Elementary School, sing the national anthem.

“She came out and sang, did a good job of doing it,” Douglas Combs said. “Came out here, and enjoyed the game.”

Sophia Nunez, a daughter who also sang, said as she spent the time with her dad, she was hoping she and her dad would create an everlasting memory to take home.

“That we hangout a lot,” Nunez said. “That we do stuff a lot together. We’re gonna try to catch a ball together.”

Even though this day was about celebrating the grandpas, dads, and father figures in these fans’ lives, they made their kids a priority, too. Some dads faced off their kids in a vegetable-costume race around the edges of the field, and some families stayed after the game for a particular activity.

“We wanted to run the bases,” Dan and Lucas Whitmore said. “Yeah, we’re gonna run the bases and play catch.”

Fans flooded the field running the bases as families and getting some use out of the gloves they brought to the game.

Although Lucas said the day isn’t over just yet for his dad.

“We’re gonna have fun at home,” said Lucas.
