Evan Harrington: According to the National Weather Service, the heat index in Onondaga County is expected to exceed 100 degrees by the weekend.
C.K. Construction’s Project Manager, Ross Mohr, says that even with the heat advisory, his crew is still working relentlessly while also adhering to New York labor laws.
Ross Mohr: We try to drink as much liquid as you can, kind of try to stay out of the sun as best as you can, obviously can’t stay out of it all the time, but if you can work in the shade, work in the shade, as best you can.
Harrington: Mohr says it’s a delicate balance between maintaining worker safety and meeting construction deadlines.
Mohr advises his crew to be focused on tasks while working in a heatwave.
Mohr: It’s even more important when it’s hot out, you don’t want to get distracted with the heat, and you want to keep your quality the same, you don’t want to go rushing around, cause it’s too hot or anything.
Harrington: Mohr says sometimes the job needs to be done.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS) — With construction ongoing in Syracuse, companies are expecting to face challenges as a severe heat wave approaches.
The heat index in Onondaga County is expected to exceed 100 degrees by the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Even with a heat advisory in effect, C.K. Construction’s goal is to work relentlessly to deliver the best product on the market, said Ross Mohr, project manager at the company.
Mohr is taking steps to ensure the safety of his crew with the labor laws that are in place in New York.
“We try to drink as much liquid as you can, kind of try to stay out of the sun, as best as you can, obviously can’t stay out of it all the time, but if you can work in the shade, work in the shade,” said Mohr.
For Mohr, it’s a delicate balance of maintaining worker safety and upholding construction deadlines.
